Spot Details

This is an excellent Kitesurfing spot, however, you need a boat to access it. There is one major caveat. You can rig on the beach, but you cannot launch from the Island. You have to walk out to the water let the kite float and water launch. The Island is owned by the San Jacinto River Authority and it is their rule. Also, don't set foot on the dam either. Follow the rules and don't ruin it for the rest of us. It has a sandy bottom and it is good for North, West and South Winds. The Island is about 800 yards from the nearest shore to the East. I have run back and forth between the pass and you catch some nice flat water. A boat or Jetski is necessary to reach the Island. Lake Conroe Marina off 105 gives a nice straight shot. I have wanted to launch from there and cruise in front of the dam in a south wind it is flat as glass.
